Candling eggs. Are they viable?

I was able to talk my husband into helping me candle the rest of the egg. We are down to 4. We had to discard 2 more. One must not have been fertile and the other had quit during the early stages of development the liquid and yolk had mixed and stank to high heaven. The other 4 had good development, good veins, and movement inside. We put those back for momma to finish the job.

Hi, about 2 weeks ago our aracuana disappeared. We thought the fox had taken her but the we found her in the next door neighbour's barn the dat before yesterday with 7 eggs and on chick! Unfortunately our discovery has caused her to abandon the eggs. They were cold to the touch yesterday morning so I hastily fabricated an incubator using a cool box a table lamp and my daughters alarm clock (it has a thermometer on it)
I can't see if the eggs are viable or not as the blue eggshell is too dark to see inside.
What do you guys think?
Am I wasting my time?
Thanks
Dave.

Welcome to BYC!

We had a hen that got stuck away from her eggs. They cooled off, but we tucked them back under her (or in your case put them in an incubator). They hatched late, but most of them survived. I wouldn't give up on them yet!

Best of luck!

:welcome

So I would have to agree with gitabooks, however they do need humidity in the incubator too, and a humidity tester, up until day 18 they need about 30-40% humidity, and day 18 to hatching they should have 60-80% humidity so that they don't get shrink wrapped.
I won't be on till the end of the day, but I wouldn't give up just like gitabooks said. :)

Well, here's hoping they're OK. I don't have a hygrometer and it'll take about a week to get one. I've got no idea how far on they are. I'm guessing the humidity is going to OK, the water in the tray is evaporating quite well and needs topping up each day.
