So what's the soonest one can detect signs of life in an egg? I read a thread yesterday where someone claimed to be able to candle a freshly laid egg and see that it was fertile, so I decided to set some eggs and see at what point I could see signs of life.

Eggs were set yesterday at ~3 pm.

Okay, so this egg is fresh out of the chicken's butt and I can see no sign of fertility.

Okay... duck eggs are very easy to candle compared to chicken eggs. This duck egg is one I found in a nest that a duck has been laying in, but not sitting on. It's been warm here, so this egg has already started and I could see very clearly this. However, my camera skills aren't too good, so I was not able to capture it while being candled. You will just have to trust me.
