candling/hatching question

You can shine a flashlight in through the incubator window to help you see any possible pips. That's what I do. It helps when you have some light in there, and sometimes you can see the shadow of a little crack or bump in the shell, showing you where the pip is. They really can be very hard to see otherwise.

My two mallards just recently laid 22 eggs and she sat on all of them. Out of 22, 12 eggs were healthy and hatched. The ducklings are now almost 4 weeks old. I started candling around day 20 since I wasn't aware of this technique before hand! All the clear eggs are what I discarded. Around day 22 I could see movement. It was amazing! The eggs hatched on day 28. I brought babies and mom in my garage from outside on the day they hatched. I left mom with them until they were 5 days old. She was very defensive and was attacking me! Babies did very well on their own after that!

I've looked and looked, but I don't see anything! :/ Idk...unless it's out of my viewing range. I'm looking down on the egg. I only put one "window" in it and it's in the lid so I'm very limited on where I can see.

Congrats on your new babies!! Isn't it too neat?? It's like an ultrasound for an egg! Lol I was amazed the first time I candled and saw all the movemen!

It was amazing! I can't wait to hatch again this spring! Here's a picture of my babies over three weeks old!

Good pip placement. That baby shouldn't have much problem getting out. But remember, it could take another 24-48 hours! More likely, it will happen in 10-12 hours, but longer won't surprise me.
