I have Cuckoo Maran eggs, but i'm having trouble candling them as they are brown - any tips? Should I wait till a certain day to candle or just get a really bright bulb?

Cheers.

Good Luck with that!!

Being where i am, the eggs will probably have hatched before a candler get here! I will order one - and hope it arrives promptly. If not, a very bright bulb is my only choice...

I just posted a forum thread in this section on a homemade candler I use for dark shelled eggs. Only cost me $5 to make using household items and I didn't have to wait for it to be shipped to me. Good luck!

You can also try SEVERAL flashlights! myfine where is the link to your candler? Thanks!

CANDLE EGGS
DAY 1

Always wash hands before handling eggs.
The shell of an egg is thin and opaque when held near a bright light. The easiest type of egg to candle is the white shelled egg and some of the hardest eggs to candle are dark brown eggs, like the Maran eggs pictured below.

You could try two or more flashlights to see into them!

oooh. i like the idea of several flashlights! i hadn't though of that. I just use the one, and see enough, but i will have to try 4! I may blind the chick LOL
