Hi,

Today is day 14 and I have just candled 2 eggs for the first time. I have a light coloured egg and the light shone well through it, it is porous so has a speckled effect. Half the egg was darker and the other half clear. When I turned the egg the darker area always moved to the top, and as I moved it I noticed what looked like tiny air bubble that then floated up towards the darker part of the egg. Am I to presume this is gas and the egg is due to explode?? Or could the darker area (no blood ring) still be a chick.
the eggs are under my broody hen, will hens always kick out the bad eggs or do some sit on them? I am pretty sure I saw movement in the other egg though the shell is very dark and don't want to risk losing that one because of a rotten egg explode in the nest.

Thanks

Unfortunately, it sounds like the egg is no good. Normally, there will be a dark portion of the egg where the chick is but it wouldn't move to the top (as you described) when you turn the egg.
