candling quail eggs

At what day would you candle the eggs to see if they are alive? I want to cull the "yolkers" * & "quitters" as soon as possible. BUT don't want to throw out any eggs that are still GOOD. The supplier sent a few extras . I have them on the side & am turning them by hand .. If I cull some these will have a spot in the turner.

I was wondering If I could see veigns at 7 days? I will the eggs cool enough to harm them with the top off while I candle 125 eggs?
Just wondering ...Any pics of quail eggs being candled? .

What breed(s) are you incubating? I personally do not candle until just before moving them to the hatcher - at 2 weeks. I've been surprised before by eggs I thought were no good that hatched. Bobwhites are easy... they're white, so you can just take a penlight to them to see in... but wait until day 12-14 on them, as they take a little longer to get started sometimes.
Buttons and coturnix are harder to see into... that's why I wait until day 14, because then it's obvious which are clears. By day 7 you should start noticing a very defined airsac, with darkness below, and a reddish tint to the eggs... those are good.

Oh yeah... bobwhites are easy.

But do give them at least 10 days before deciding to toss any... they are 23 days to incubate so they take a little longer to get going. Congrats! They're adorable babies!
