So, I'm a first time incubator on day 13. I pulled the eggs out for a quick candle check of progress. What exactly am I looking for or tell tale signs of potential hatch success? I saw some that appeared to be 1/3 light and 2/3rds dark. I Presume the lightness is the air sac and the dark is the potential chick. Some eggs are completely light. I presume these are eggs that won't hatch and some that are completely dark that I'm completely in the dark as to their status. Let me know if I'm on the right track or anything else that would be helpful to a noob.

Thanks for looking,

Stan

Sounds like you are on the right track. The all dark ones could be a bacterial infection that won't hatch or just thick or dark she'll that's harder to see through. The all dark are the ones that sometimes break and make a mess

Dark eggs have chicks, green eggs dont. With coturnix eggs you cant see theough well enough to make out veins and the like so candling can only tell you if they are go or no go eggs.

Thanks for the replies! I hope to be reporting back with a hatch in the next 72-96hrs!

Stan
