Canine bloat video

Thank you SO much for sharing this video.. so much!
I did have a dane that was in the beginning stages of bloat, and we rushed him to the emergency vets (he was fine after), but he looked JUST like that video...

I worry about this ALL the time with my 2 girls i have now.. (saint bernard and goldendoodle..both have deep/wide chests.

My one girl isnt fixed yet(goldendoodle)... i am thinking of getting the surgery done when i get her spayed....but its sooo expensive!

The wolf at our zoo died from this. He bloated, then twisted and died. Unfortunately, it was after hours, and there was no-one there to check on him.

Wow...that was painful to watch, but oh so helpful! We had our dane's stomach tacked to buy us time if he ever experiences bloat, because it's fairly common with his breed. Although I've read of the symptoms, I've never actually seen them. Now I know what to look for - thanks!

Not always but in most cases it will. They need to be taken to a vet immediately/

Without immediate intervention, it will almost certainly result in the dog's death. If you can't get to a vet, you can take a length of garden hose and put it down the dog's throat (you need to use something like a block of wood to keep the dog's mouth open) to relieve the gas. I've done it in college when I was studying veterinary technology. But, as soon as it's possible, you need to get your dog to the vet!

I've never experienced bloat first hand, but have friends who have. Boat can becaused by the dog over heating and gulping water, sometimes the vigorous exercise without the water will cause it too, it can also becaused by the dog swallowing foreign material that irritates the stomach so the dog will drink lots of water or gulp air trying to get the discomfort to go away.
