Canker- Photos Finally!!- Advice Still Sought. What is My Next Step???

You have Canker in her mouth caused for an infection from biting wire or metal. Possibly from fighting with something. This worls for me. Take the top off the canker 9like you did) and use a cotton swab to wipe it several times with hydrogen peroxide until it appears to be raw. Wipe everyday with cotton Q-tip until it is gone completely inside and along edge of her mouth. Dilute the Peroxide. One tablespoon Peroxide to three talbspoons water. Buy some Veterx from the feedstore or tractor supply and wipe her comb, waddles and ears with a cotton ball of vetrx. Drop two drops in her throat. Do this once a week for two weeks. (You can wipe her legs and feet with the cotton ball of vetrx after wiping her head. Keeps scaley mites off the legs).

after looking at him tonight and checking his beak/mouth out it does appear the area may be coming back.. at least I was able to scrape off a thin sheath of white stuff again.. there was no visible growth or like it was but was able to remove a layer of white/yellow material from inside beak/mouth.. after doing so that area appeared raw/red looking and I put iodine on it then.. also gave him another couple drops of oral infant vitamins..let him out to stretch and run around and he acts totally normal.. pecking, scratching and purring around the place. still eating well.. now is the canker in the same family/treatment regime as the fungal stuff.. I am wondering about these fungal treatments and what to use/amounts/etc and if it would be safe to put in his beak/on his beak. i read in my chicken health handbook about various ointments and treatments for humans and pets for fungal infections such as athletes foot ringworm etc.. I am guessing they mean like tinactin foot cream- just not sure that would be good in his mouth.

I am unclear whether or not you have started using the medication advised for trichomoniasis/canker...if not please initiate asap

To determine if it is a fungus, you can shine a small black light on the spot. If it glows back, it's a fungus.

If it is an infection or an abcess that might have drained already, you really don't have much else to do since you have been keeping it clean.

I don't give anti-biotics if I can help it. too many other good bacteria get killed and then there are other problems.

I have not initiated any medications other than keeping area clean with the iodine.. I am gonna try that black light trick though.. too late tonight.. so as a safe course to try should I begin with the copper sulfate or something like a fish zole? and in this case how much or what do I use to treat ONE silkie rooster.. seems most of this is to mix up in a gallon of water.. obviously he does not drink a gallon of water much less than a half cup or so if that per day.

I had a hen once who had that sort of thing but in her comb and I had to open up her comb a bit and get it all out, she was fine afterwards.
