Canker

Sorry for your loss. Most state vets will perform a necropsy on a bird you lose if you keep the body cold in the fridge, wrapped in plastic bags. They can diagnose things like canker and other diseases to know what you are dealing with. That is something to keep in mind if you should lose another bird. This is a list of state vets:

There wasn’t much left of her I think the flock got to her I had her separated but she got out with everyone who are free ranged and all that was left was feather and bones. It happened around 4 pm still day light but a little rainy. I’ve had hawk problems but they normally take the whole body so I’m thinking the flock got to her with what was left

I have lost a lot of chickens over the years, and never have seen only feathers and bones left, unless it was attacked by a predator, such as a raccoon or other. The bodies I have found in the coop are never torn up. Most chickens will peck a chicken near death or very sick, but mine have never injured a corpse in my coop.

It was outside in the yard where they normally free range there was some intestines left but only a little that looked like they had pecking holes in it. She was the youngest and the lightest color out of the flock and did get picked on I thought her canker was a peck wound at first until I did more research and also got on her I was treating her and smell was going away but she never acted sickly the whole time. She just had the wound on her beak that never stopped her from eating and the smell was even going away. I have a full fenced in yard that has a high fence as well as one of my outside dogs that will chase anything away. The flock was next to the remains but they were not fazed or scared and were just pecking the ground like nothing was going on. So my only thing I could think of was them.
