Canning and Home preserving

My PA Dutch father taught my mother to make pumpkin pie, as well as apple pie with the topping, and bread pudding. Aside from that, my NA mother refused to let us know diddly about our heritage. Customs, language etc.

My mom would visit her sisrers, her mom, and they would all chatter happily like birds in this language none of us kids knew.... Spanish! So beautiful. But they never taught it to us kids. They were forbidden to speak it at the mission school and weren't supposd to speak it at home either. So they didn't teach it to us. We had no stories, no memories, no heritage, no culture, no roots. When people ask me what I am, I say American.. race ? HUMAN. Ethnicity? AMERICAN. Culture? AGING HIPPIE. I know I have roots though. The first time I saw flamenco dancers I almost came out of my seat! I felt I knew how to do that! It stirred my blood like nothing ever has before or since! It's in the blood!

One thing for best results if you follow the recipe I gave you for dog food
feed sole meal of my food no kibble then they would defeat each other kibble alone maybe small spoon of fresh on it should not issue feeding the fresh may not want kibble again
One thing on your recipe I didnt notice a quantity of meat to use... How many pounds of meat.

That's sad, Penny. I have a lot of fun with the local Amish. I can pick up a word or two of what they are saying when they speak PD around me...which I find to be very rude but got them to stop doing it when I told them my father was PD and spoke it fluently. They just looked at me wide eyed and said 'then you can understand what we are saying...?' I just smiled elusively. Never answered. Made them live in fear and watch what they say around us.
I am like penny and old white lady that likes everyone she meets. I under stand enough Spanish living close to the border to chuckle when something funny is said. When they ask if I speek Spanish I say no. And smile.

Same thing.

Hi all :frow I just got a dehydrator for Christmas, and am really looking forward to trying a variety of fruits, veggies and meats over the next few months. It's American manufacture (Excalibur), so all the guidelines are in the measures y'all use...
I grew up with imperial measures (before we went decimal over here in 71) but I have a rusty memory/sneaking suspicion that your version of imperial measures and our version of imperial measures are not always quite the same :hmm :th :barnie. Thank goodness for your everso practical notion of 'cups', and the fact that I have one small measuring jug that gives a cup and its subdivisions as well as those of litres and pints!
I am also interested in historic methods of preserving; if you are too, this book on the subject is fascinating https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pickled-Potted-Canned-Science-Preserving/dp/0743255534

Lol, no, so they could have secrets from us. We (my twin brother and I) learned to understand spelling at a very early age. Mom visited her sisters in another state only rarely, every couple of years, so no chance for us to learn. But back to canning....

Um ... it's too early, I'm not awake yet. I got nuthin', lol.
