CANNOT catch the raccoon!!

Quote:
we used canned cat food, then when that couldn't get the last one, marshmallows. Don't know why it worked, but it did. We also covered the trap under feed bags and such so they walked right in.

Mix up the golden malrin fly bait and soda and put it in the pen he continues to tear into? If anything else gets into it then at least its something that was not supposed to be there.

On the other hand. Start feeding your raccoon. Yes. Thats right. Feed it. Feed it good. Canned cat food, dry cat food, whatever you plan to trap it with. Feed it for a week or so. Then try trapping it. Works great that way cause they get very relaxed about getting fed.

Live bait? Put a chicken in a well armored cage and wait out there with the 22.
Make sure the cage gaps are small. Raccoons can reach through very fast!
Then you will definitely get your culprit.

Try placing the trap against a walkway it already goes by, such as right on the inside of the coop it goes into. Although, if this coon is trap savy, such as a coon who someone else trapped then released... well, an all nighter might be in the works.

We have had success with canned catfood.
I like the suggestion of feeding it without trapping for awhile...wait until the guard is down then WHAM!!
And maybe it will leave your chickens alone in the mean time...but I doubt it.
Good luck...we are dealing with raccoons now too except fortunately for us...but not my neighbours...they are more interested in the neighbours fish pond than my hens at this time.
