I've been lucky to have hit into a market(my garden club members) that will drive15-20 miles away to get organic eggs at the co-op or Whole Foods, so they think it is great that they can get eggs in their "backyard" so to speak! And cheaper too, as I charge $2.75/doz or $2.50/doz with carton return. My girlfriend has not been so lucky as everyone she works with or knows expects them for free (nervey!). We went to an heirloom tomato lecture at the library this weekend and the curator of the library suggested a card on the bulletinboard and a farmers market in the next town over. I pass that on to you as ideas...I really liked the Mexican Market suggestion that had been posted too! Good Luck!

I wish you were in my area. I would hook you up. My girls (22 hens) can't keep up with our orders. I want to donate some to a shelter (Jesus House) but so far none to spare. People want to pay me in advance for eggs that aren't even laid yet!!!! I'm not complaining it pays the feed bill.

I can't keep up with orders!! My pullets really need to start laying here soon! I ask $3 a doz and everyone just gives hubby a five and says feed the chickens more greens for us!

Too bad you aren't here, I'd hook you up with an entire plant full of guys who are on a waiting list for mine!

I pay $5 for 18 eggs AND drive across a toll bridge to get them. I am so glad I purchased my own chickens... but they won't be laying until late summer. I only bought 4 chicks, so I am assuming that we won't have any eggs to spare. We may still need to buy eggs. (Or pick up a couple more chickens??)

I've ran into the same thing, though... my oldest daughter thinks it's nasty to eat fresh eggs. I try and tell her they're the same as you get from the grocery store but they are fresher, have better lives, healthier feed, a cleaner environment and aren't confined/debeaked/sitting in their own feces. She still thinks that because they come from the grocery store, they have to be better.

That would be nice if they laid daily!! I have 4 kids, one who won't touch fresh eggs, and a husband who LOVES breakfast. So we can definitely go through the eggs.

Try taking them to a neutral location. A lot of times the extra effort to drive to get them is what turns some folks off. Make the flea market on Saturday mornings?

I understand. We pickle eggs, make every baked good known to man, etc. etc. I even give some to my ex husband! He has given me bunches of egg cartons, though, so it's the least I can do!

Actually, when I got them, I "budgeted" on them only laying 3-4 per week apiece. I have really been amazed at their productivity. I have one gal who laid her first egg on Jan 12th and hasn't missed a day since. A couple of others took a day off this week for the first time in a month. Yesterday and Saturday I only collected 4 eggs, and I had got so used to there being 5 eggs in the next box each day I actually wondered if the fifth egg hadn't been stolen!
