Can't free-range

[Easter eggers]

I want to free-range but when I let them out all they do is eat these little pine cones because we live in an area with lots and lots of pine trees. Any advice on how to get them to stop so I can free-range?

Do you currently keep them in a pen?
What pine cone things are you referring to?
