I just cant seem to get the humidity up in my LG, it's driving me nuts. the only time its went up is when the temp went up (too high).

Do you have your wet cloth partially in the water? A sponge works better. I use a shallow large dish for water, to cover more surface area. Is your LG a still air or does it have a fan? Also an LG takes a little bit of time to regulate once you've opened the lid.

Isn't there any rings in it for water? In my old bator I had to add several sponges in a plastic dish that you would put under a plant to catch water. I would use hot water and slowly pour it onto the sponge on top and let them absorb all the way to the bottom and let just a little water collect in the plastic dish. I also had to put this on top of the screen where the eggs where and I covered it with a screen to keep any hatching babies out of it. I could only get the humidity up to 50% but it stayed in the 40's most of the time. My new bator hasn't gone over 55%. Even when chicks whre hatching it still stayed at 55%. I plugged a vent hole and still it stayed at 55%. I have water rings in this one though.

Good luck

I've found a wet paper towel works better, but I set a wet sponge on top of it so it doesn't dry out to quickly. Make sure that you have more than one humidity gauge in there though, especially if it is still air. I had one still air last fall when I started, and I always had trouble with it. I added a fan to it, then I had the problem of the humidity being too high. I think it was partially due to the location of the humidity gauge, I hadn't changed anything else other than the fan, so I think it was higher before, and just not registering. Of course, the fan would increase the humidity, by making the water evaporate faster, but try moving your gauge to a different part of the bator before trying to get it to go higher.

I had the same issue during the last hatch after being put in the hatcher (still air LG). People say never open the lid the last 3 days. Well I opened the lid, lots. I used a water bottle with warm water and opened the lid and sprayed my eggs to keep the humidity up. I hatched 18 out of 21 so obviously it didn't hurt a thing. Other than what you are doing I really don't have a clue what else would get your humidity up.

I do have 3 spots in the bator for water...they are all full and it still wont get over 51%

I have moved the meter all over the bator when i was turning the eggs and got the same reading

it's a still air.

the eggs are due tomorrow and i have no pips but i have seen movement in the last couple days, even in the ones that arent due yet.

i have one of those little ones from wal-mart, ive seen them all over this site since i bought mine, lol.

I had to constantly mist my duck egg that hatched a week ago, i think im just gonna have to start doing that everyday

..what a pain.

ill try a sponge first.

Hi I have a still air LG too & the sponge & the wash cloth work well but the thing that usually helps put it over the top in my experience has been a sock. I usually use one of mine that's been washed & I use one of the anklet socks. I wet it & roll it up & pop it in there & wahlah up goes the humidity. When you first close the lid it will take a minute or a few to get a proper reading though... But I've literally watched a dial gauge move the hand up as the humidity goes up...

it can't hurt to try it at this point right?

I have a LG that was still air until I put a fan in it myself, and I don't have a problem with getting humidity up, sometimes its more of a problem getting it down because it will go up into the 80's if I don't watch it. I fill the 3 trays in the bottom, then I wet a medium sized sponge with warm water. I also have both vent plugs out, one is completely open an unobstructed, the other one has a small square 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 sponge piece I cut wet with warm water. I cover the other vent hole about 3/4 of the way with the wet sponge piece and make sure to keep it wet. This seems to really help me get my humidity up, and since a sponge is poreous, air can still cycle through it and into the bator for fresh airflow.

I almost forgot too that if you've got hatchings due tomorrow you shouldn't be opening the bator at all anymore even for water issues.... I would do the sock thing but that is truly just slipping it in the side as fast as you can & then the lid stays closed.... After that if you need to add water you want to use a nasal aspirator & turbing from a an aquarium or just a straw. using the nasal aspirator (a clean one) pip the water in to the water containers on the bottom of the bator, the sponges, wash clothes, &/or sock. All you can do now is get it as high as the humidity will go, but you don't want to keep opening the bator. You said you have others that are not due yet? Do you need to still turn those eggs? You need to be real careful doing a stagered hatching because those last few days they need to be closed in completely.

51% is ok if its time to hatch !! your good !! keep us posted on ur new
