Can't Machine Quilt...Why Does Machine Skip?

Hey! Let me know how the machine trip goes. And nice fabric! Good deals. Always like those!

I will if I can ever figure out when to go. I hate going that far away from my place. Gosh, I don't even like to leave the mountain to go for groceries and I'm getting worse. Making a log cabin round for my fall bed quilt now. It needs 20 10" blocks and I've done 11 so far.

I made the mistake of deciding to make a puff quilt with alpaca fur...... King size....like over 1200 quares..and the top puff part needs to be pinned and sewn then stuffed then attached......it's 25 squares per row and I've only done 3 rows...since December last year. Lol. NEVER making a puff quilt again... It's is cute thio.
Wow, sounds hard but I bet it will be heavenly.
Also have a baby lock eclipse serger for sale if anyone is interested.
You know, I'm not really even sure what the heck a serger is. I've never understood what it's for, the difference between it and a regular sewing machine. I know what it looks like and it confuses me. But, then, I only quilt so have no need for one, I'd guess. I can't sew anyway.

My Fall Bed Quilt in progress. Log cabin blocks are just pieced, not attached to each other or the center medallion. Next round? No idea. It's about 62" square at this point. I still haven't finished the rooster bed runner. Working from sunup till after sundown most days, both me and Ladyhawk, her with tanning and me with quilting and both of us with our respective chicken flocks.

OH! speckledhen! that is absolutely beautiful!!! I love it!

I emailed the Chattanooga Sewing Center to ask if they had the Brother 1500 (they deal in Bernina, Brother and Pfaff), the cost, etc.

This is my email and this was the answer I got back:

Subject: Brother 1500 Straight Stitch Quilting Machine

Quote: Them: Hello Cynthia, We do not carry that model machine. Our quilting machines are the VQ2400 and VQ3000. We do have a Pfaff sit down long arm at a clearance price too!
Now, I asked about a $600 straight stitch non-computerized machine. The VQ2400 and the other are fancy-schmancy computerized highly expensive machines and Pfaff is, also. I asked about a particular machine for a reason. I don't like being steered to a much higher priced model not even remotely similar to what I was asking about without them asking my budget. Good grief. At least it tells me I have no need to go to Chattanooga unless they get one in for me to try. The next place that is a Brother dealer is a half hour further than Chattanooga. I wish there was a Janome machine I wanted because there are at least two local dealers here for those. Don't buy online, they say. Go to a dealer so you can test drive the machines, they advise. Buy from a dealer so he can do warranty work for you, they suggest. What dealer? I have none. I, as my older son says, do really live in Bumblesquat, USA.

This is what the Brother VQ3000 is, not at all like the Brother 1500 (which I think they should carry, being a Brother dealer). I do not even use a zigzag stitch! Why would I want something with 561 stitches and 14 buttonholes when I've never even made a buttonhole nor plan to do so? I don't embroider, don't even like the look of it. Ack!

I think I would email/phone them back and tell them what you just said. That you don't want what they offered, you want to look at the one you want and want to try it out. Can you get me one in, so I can come there and try it. Explain your situation, that they are the closest one to you. If they say no, then kindly tell them you are very sorry, but they have lost a potential customer, and your business. You will not recommend their store. I might even go so far as to contact Brother, if they are uncooperative. I don't understand businesses that only want to cater to the high end of their merchandise. I do understand wanting to make money, but come on. Customers aren't important unless you have the big bucks??!! You may just have to buy it online. Not the best, but if they won't help you, that may be your only option. I wouldn't want to do that though until I got to try it!

I am guessing I may have to purchase online. Even getting warranty work done on it would necessitate a trip to either Chattanooga or Knoxville, a one-and-a-half or two hour trip. May not be worth buying at a dealer. The quilt shop in Murphy, NC, about 15 miles from me sells only Janome, but the owner said the repair guy can work on most any machine, just I'd have to pay for it, even warranty work. I had already sent the Chattanooga place back the reply below. Depending on what they tell me, I'll tell them the distance problem I have and that if they only want to sell me a $3000 machine, I'll go elsewhere. I can get the Brother 1500 at either Ken's Sewing Center online or Amazon for $599 but Ken sometimes offers extras with it that Amazon does not. Still would have the warranty work issue, of course, but hopefully, would not need that. If I had to, I could go on a road trip to take the machine as long as they could work on it while I was in the store, or would have to leave it there and go back later to get it, more $$ for gas and time lost for a trip. I can get a gently used classroom model of the Juki for $100 less than a brand new one from Ken's in Alabama.

You say you don't carry that model, but can you get it? And if I got it elsewhere, you being an authorized Brother service center, could you do warranty work on it, if need be?
