Can't wait to start hatching soon! Anyone else with 10/14 hatch day?

My curiosity got the best of me this morning and I candled some of the eggs. It appears at least 5 of the 6 Swedish Flower Hens are fertile and have embryos!

About the same for the Barred Rocks.

The BCM are too dark to tell yet. And when I weighed them today, they are right on track for weight loss. We're praying that all continues this well!

I am no expert, mind you, but I understand that chicken eggs should lose about 13% of their weight by day 18 of incubation. By keeping track of the weight loss, you can have a better idea if your humidity is correct. We have a Brinsea Octogon 20 Advance which gives us humidity readouts, but we're keeping track of the weight loss to learn more about hatching successfully and as part of our childrens' homeschool science section on hatching eggs.

huh i would do this but not sure of the math how do you come up how much weight is lost

So far I candled and I have tossed 2 out of 15 total so I'm happy with that!

Nmarine don't feel bad, I will ask my DH about that! I think what you do is weigh the eggs by grams or ounces, times it by 13 then take that and subtract by the starting weight. Ex:

Egg weighs 10 grams
X 13%

10X .13= 1.3 so therfore now subtract the 1.3 from the 10=8.7 grams is what you want the egg to weigh at day 18.

Please if I'm wrong please correct me! They say you can use a food scale. I have no earthly idea if an egg is 10grams but I used it b/c it's easy!

I bought a little giant still air incubator and automatic turner, the incubator seemed like a good buy till tragedy struck..... all my baby chicks died in different stages of development then too top it off one started pipping then died in it's shell! I WAS FURIOUS !!!!!! i called mgm to report the problem and they had the nerve to claim i was faking it! So to make sure i tested all possibility's i ran the turner by itself and it worked then i checked the incubator with 2 different thermometers which were reading fluctuant reading between 120-87 degrees Fahrenheit frying or freeing the chicks to DEATH! so Long story short i traded it in and got a new incubator (same model) and now it is fluctuating between 103-87 digress Fahrenheit any ideas on how to make it work? Please email me with ideas!

I heard there is a support group on BYC for people with those LG incubators, you may want to do a little search and ask them, since they use them they are the professionals. I hatched ONE batch with an LG and promptly sold it, nasty little pain in my butt that killed most of my hatch. I converted to the school of Brinsea, and have no regrets.

I had to throw out 60% of my incubator contents because the person I got most of my eggs from was a scammer, old eggs and not viable.

But all of my own personal eggs are showing spidery veins! 2 more weeks to go!

Hey, I set 15 bantam lavender ameraucana eggs yesterday at 9:45am. All was going great until I had a short power failure for a few minutes which has kept me busy all day trying to rectify as the incubator has been all over the map as far as temps go. It seems to have started to settle down now at last ... I am using a 'human' mercury thermometer right now as the others were all disagreeing and I couldn't figure out the actual temp! Am going to try and test them to see how accurate they are and I also set up another incubator (I found it on craigslist a few weeks ago.) and it seems to be easier to adjust the temps. It is a hovabator 1583 with the wafer. I seem to have both incubators running close to where they need to be now so will just keep the extra one running in case of another interesting episode!
