Can't wait to start hatching soon! Anyone else with 10/14 hatch day?

If your having temp issues try using a water wiggler it takes away the stress of bouncing temps by giving you the internal temp of the eggs

Yes, Nmarine, I do have a water wiggler but that reading was also real low for a while and then started to get pretty high too... I am hoping that the eggs have survived the day. I did everything I could do with the knowlege I have and hopefully that will be enough to get a few chicks at least. I was so pleased this morning that I had such a lovely stable day and night behind me and then Murphy's law took over. Trusting that the excitement is over until the babies are popping out of their shells

i know mother hens dont stress as much as we do and there is no way they can keep conditions perfect all the time but they have success so im hoping i will to even with all my mess ups. this is my first time trying so im glad i have others to talk to

Well, it is after midnight and the 'bator seems to have settled down, wiggler temp is 99.8 and the air temp is ? lower - not convinced the thermometer is working right. THe probe that goes into the wiggler seems fine but the other seems off. I am hoping that the temp is truly settled for now and am going to bed. Guess we'll see in the morning what happened in the night. Sleep tight little eggs and hopefully you will all get to see the light of day

It was a viable embryo, too, so it became a learning moment for my children. I was candling it to show my kids the eye and it slipped when I went to put it back. It only fell a 1/2" or less, but it fell onto the wire shelf that the incubator is on. Luckily, it was one of the BR of which I have a good supply. Had it been a SFH or BCM I would have

myself about a hundred times! I added another in its place, so now I just have to figure out what to do with it when the others go into lockdown.

Curiosity got the best of me this morning and I did some candling.
Three silkied seramas are developing as well as one smooth.
Two are questionable, cannot see veins but the yolk is dark and secure.
Five are completely clear and one is clear with a blood ring.
Very exited that we may get to see some chicks hatch!
My eleven year old son noticed an eye on one of the chicks.
I think there are two other homeschoolers on this thread, what a great biology
lesson!

I set on the 25th, so I'm in! I am in doubt on my shipped eggs, which came scrambled... but some seem ok... I'll candle tomorrow and see...
I did set 28 of the shipped ones, but two I repaired with candle wax, never had that work, but what is the worst thing that can happen?
then I set 14 of my own eggs... just for fun.

happy incubating!!!

WOO HOOO!!

It's day 8 so I decided to candle my welsummer eggs!! Wen't to my parents house to borrow their old slide projector and it works PERFECT for dark eggs!! The first egg I put up there I thought was a dud then I saw a little black spot, and then the black spot moved!

i got so excited i called my wife, who now says i have to wait on her to candle the rest, so when she gets home we will candle all of them then I'll take pictures and get on here to tell you guys how many are alive out of my dozen! This is way cool i've never been able to see inside my dark eggs before so I'm so happy i found something that works!!!
