Wow! Y'all have been very busy since last night. I am afraid that I am going to have to leave you Ol Hen's cheeping about what a bad person I am.
I personally think this has been blown a little out of proportion, on both sides, but I will try to make my exodus in as quiet a manner as I know how.
I built the kennel to house the dogs. They are in it every night and some days.
I am going to extend an olive branch here. You gals, I am assuming that you are all women firing away, are right. There are laws against letting my dogs run, and an untrained beagle will track anything. Since I am not with them, I can only assume they aren't chasing deer. There are also laws about seatbelts and speeding and though I am not admitting anything....
My good beagle was trained and broken of tracking deer. Not by me, but by the person that sold her to me, with a shock collar.... go ahead, tell me all about the cruelty of a shock collar. I broke them of chasing the farm cats... I think.
My good beagle trained the other two or perhaps they taught her bad habits. I will find out come October.
I have one neighbor with cattle and horses which the beagles don't seem to bother. I am the only one with livestock. They have dogs, but there have been no issues.
I am sorry that I have made you feel that you have been attacked. All I thought I was doing was responding to a post and offering my opinion.
Perhaps I let my dogs run because I have too many and don't have the time to exercise them properly. For a long time I didn't get any beagles because I hated that they are used for 4 months out of the year and were destined for kennels the rest of the time. Like I said earlier, I have nice kennels for them, but have you ever looked at the sad eyes of a hound dog? Maybe they talked me into letting them run about like teenagers. Perhaps I will rethink this. That said, I have had lengthy discussions with my closest neighbors, and with a career of reading people, believe that they are genuine when they say they don't mind.
Anyhow, trying to be graceful here, sorry to those I have offended, and honestly, it kinda hurts that some here think that I am an A**, or that I have horrible husbandry skills.
Have a nice weekend.
