Car vs Rooster!!! Can he be saved???

Aww, Lucky looks like he knows you are trying your best to help him get better.

Thank you for sharing all the updates, it has been very educational (not to mention that we are all sweet on Lucky now, and want to know how he is.)

I think I'll try to remember kari-dawn's user name just in case I ever have a bird with a broken bone. Some advice from a wild life rehabber can be pretty helpful in such a situation.

Kari_dawn, if there a particular antibiotic that you would use for a bird with a broken bone?

HA! The vet finally called back and suggested exactly what was suggested on here...I told him I got the Duramycin-10 and he said that was good, "but I don't think that going to fix a broken bone"....yea, thanks doc for that brilliant insight LOL I know it's not going to fix a broken bone, bonehead....sorry, my snark is still in effect since it took them over 24 hrs to get back to me. Perhaps he needed the time to look up what should be done and found all of his information on BYC

I had a hen with a broken leg a couple of years ago and I wrapped it too tightly and it began to swell and started draining. I quickly redressed the wound with vet wrap and started her on Pen G by injection. All her scales fell off the bad leg, but grew back nice and pink. She recovered after 4 months in the house, but her break has calcified and her foot does not work. The foot is alive and she uses it to get around, but no feelings. She did lose her toenails and they never grew back. It took a very long time for the break to stop moving so you may not want to mess with it very much, therefore the reason for her being in the house for 4 months.

I would absolutely start her on Pen G, but i cannot remember the dosage.

And don't bother to call the web page where they give advice. I called when Bunny broke her leg and the only advice they gave me was to take her to a Vet and I was charged for the advice. I got much more help on BYC....

His beak seems to be doing pretty good since the patch and glue job

I fashioned a sling to keep his leg next to his body and keep it from moving at all, I'll post pictures later after milking...darn cows take up soooo much time

LOL
He ate some sweet corn last night and his usual egg scrambler with spinach, chick crumbles and crushed egg shell...I'll have to make him a small batch of noodles or rice see if he goes for that

Problem is, he's not drinking much of his water....I'm putting 1/2 tsp in his quart waterer and I even added some sugar but he must know there's something else in there....
