Terrick remained unconscious as Linden cleaned and re-bandaged the wound that had severed his calf muscle clear down to the bone and still did not wake as Bree entered Raven's house. But he did stir ever so slightly...
"Terrick!" a female voice called him, shrill, as if he were being scolded. "Put down that sword this instant!"
The boy, no older than 8, had been skewering imaginary monsters and he grinned sheepishly at the swordsman before him as he felt his mother's eyes on him from behind. "Awww, but I was just borrowing it for a minute so I could get the bad guys," the young Terrick protested.
His mother scowled and the boy handed the sharp instrument back to the swordsman, who laughed heartily at the boy's enthusiasm. "You'll make a fine swordsman one day boy! With a little bit of proper instruction, of course."
---
Merek let Raven take him into the cell, then turned to face her, still hunched forward because of the wound on his back, nodding to her sadly. If he was to be turned over to the caravan guards, he had little doubt that they would not be inclined to follow elvish law. "Then you would condemn me, unless you do me the favor of being judge and executioner here and now."
