For those of you who want to try using a big cardboard box for your brooder, definitely call ALL the appliance stores in your area (not just the big-box outlets).

We lucked out with a local store that, once they saved a refrigerator box for us to pick up instead of having to shred and discard it, now call us whenever they have more of them! So we have a great brooder box set up and now are saving the other ones for future brooders or whatever might help with storing flock supplies.

Awesome.. I just got my meaties in and will be looking for a large cardboard brooder soon as they are getting tight after just two days... Thanks for the advice

Great idea! When finished with it you can just trash it.
I'm calling some independent small stores today. Maybe a smaller washer or dryer box would suit my needs.

I tell you what last year instead of just throwing my brooder boxes away I put the whole thing on my garden.. The cardboard creates the cool and the poo makes heat.. Instant comnpost....
