Caring for a tiny flock: Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Yearly Chores Checklist?

Any creature that eats insects, wild animals or food that has spent time in contact with soil will have worms.

Whether or not to worm is a personal decision. Are your chickens pets or are they a source of food? There is no FDA approved de-worming medication for chickens. You would use a medication for another animal with the dosage modified for a chicken. They do work and some people think that not eating the eggs or meat for 2 weeks or a month is safe enough, but I won't do it. If you want chickens for pets and you are willing to throw eggs away, then worm them when you see symptoms of worms. If you do a search on this website using the box in the upper right hand corner you will find a lot of information on this topic. It is discussed fairly often.

I have removable perches that I'm trying out. I think that brushing them down with vegetable oil, in addition to helping keep mites away, would also make poop removal easier?

My perches are removable and have a high varnish on them .(made from tongue & groove flooring)Good scrub with running water , soap & bleach.
