Caring For Duck Pool

Pump pulls water thru filtering tubs from bottom of pond then returns water to pond..

This is kind of what I was planning for pur eventually-going-to-be-built pond. Thanks! Helpful!

Here is a photo of my pond. It isn't totally clear but clean enough for the ducks. I do clean the filter once a week along with the pump. I don't have the room or electrical outlets or the pump system as shown before my post. But this seems to be working for now. I use the muck tablets to get rid of sludge, barley straw and I have a small and medium filter. I have attached photos. My one filter circulates within itself and the pump.. no fountain or anything. The smaller filter has the fountain. I hope that helps. Ive seen people with very big expensive systems. With rocks and sand and all kinds of things. I dont have the knowledge for all that yet, I'd have to do alot of research maybe later. Maybe when i enlarge the pond and get a larger liner. For now they'll have to be happy with this.lol I can't even keep plants in the pond they eat them all... so we have a seperate 300 gallon plastic pond that holds plants since we they destoyed the others. Too much money in plants to let them just eat the. All. Good luck. This is exactly what I'm looking for! Wow! Thank you!

What size pond is that? If I were any good at estimating based on photos, I would. But I'm not. Definitely not.

6 long'x 5' by approx 18" deep in the middle. that's a guess on w x L, I didn't really measure. I took a 7' x 10' pond tarp and laid it in the hole I had partially dug and fixed the imperfections in the "ledges" to make it work

This is brilliant! Can I ask what the barley straw does? Or how you use it?

Wow that pond info is great. And also wow: we can add bleach? How much can we add to a 50 gallon tank?
You would not want more than about 4 parts per million residual clorine. If you get it up to your nose you can smell the clorine at 4ppm. That would be about one-third ounce of clorine bleach in 50 gallons.

If the water is really nasty the clorine will react and disappear as soon as it is added so it would take more bleach to get a 4 ppm clorine residual. Also, the residual clorine will dissipate into the air in a day or so.

Personally, I would not put clorine in duck pond water. If you mess up and get too much it will kill the ducks intestinal flora and they will have digestive problems. If you do use it, then get some clorine test strips (they're cheap) instead of relying on your nose.
