caring for Premature chinese crested Puppies

What a story! I was quickly reading through everything - hoping that you continued to post their improvements! Have you caught up on sleep yet?

How's mama doing?

Congrats! A major accomplishment! You should be proud, the pups look great:)

Wow! I didn't realize worms were such an issue.

May I ask a dumb question? Am I supposed to be giving my dog a wormer prophylactically? I have a Mini Schnauzer who goes to the vet annually (if not more than that if he has a skin condition flare up or needs an picky glad expression) and I know they test for worms when I bring his doodoo. Is that enough? He's on Frontline and Heartgard as well. I don't want to hijack your thread, but because you're giving us all the education on worms, I thought I'd ask!

Thanky!

If he's on heartgard that will deworm him prophylactically for roundworms and hookworms each month as well as heartworms. If your vet is also doing an annual fecal test, that should be enough. Just follow common hygiene rules and wash your hands after handling poop and you should be fine. Worms can certainly cause issues, but common sense and good hygiene is usually enough to prevent them.

BTW, great job on those premie puppies Naakte!

They are so cute, and so lucky to have such a caring and devoted owner. I caught this thread the first or second day and came back today expecting to hear at least some sad news. I'm so happy to hear that they are all thriving!

i agree on the worming issue, NOT all puppies are born with worms, they only have worms if the dam has worms and if you deworm (ie heartguard/ivomectin of similar) on a regular basis she wont have any to pass on to the pups.

your babies are stunning...and looking good, that little male has realy come into his own and is looking fabulous!
even though thy are puffies, i might still have to steal one...black and whites *drool* yup that little girl behind the male in his pic, the one with the black eye and black on her ears.

though i know their color will change alot as they get older, my red and white puffer started out RED RED and white with 1 big splotch on her back and a red head...
now shes mostly white and her red has faded to a very ligth red on her ears, and shes got polkadots now lol.
and my tri-color hairless is now a black and white spotted with barley any black hairs lol.

cresties are sooo random and addictive
