CAROLINA CHICKENSTOCK FALL 2012

We had an amazing time yesterday, and enjoyed being able to put faces with BYC names! Unfortunately on our way home we were in a wreck...nothing major but we were already exhausted and just wanted to get home!
Amy (Westknollfarm) I am just in love with the gorgeous, gorgeous babies, thanks again for everything and it was so great to finally meet you!!! :) And Patsy SC Grammy ;), this little wheaten cutie we got from you is a real sweetheart! He sat up on my shoulder for the longest time yesterday evening falling asleep in my arms or playing with my hair! I just love him so much already!!
Amylou we had fun in the end there...I wish you had won something though! Good luck building up your flock. Hang around me too long and I'll have chickens coming out your ears! lol
I know I met many, many other wonderful new friends but now I can't remember their names. :confused:g
Thanks again Tricia for putting on this amazing show and to Amy (Twilight) for helping in the background! ;) Also thank you so much Amy dor the nose dive under the truck. :lau Your such a sweetie. :)

So glad y'all are OK! I had a great time hanging out with you!

I thought they were awesome too!! I noticed Patsy had them I think she said they sell them online too. And apparently some vendor was selling them last year.

Yes, they are so awesome to have for travel times and in that "pinch" when you have to contain a bird in a small enclosure...pop bottle waterers, soda bottle waterers...not sure of the correct term but...I got the ones I have from a vendor local to the upcoming Morganton, NC show/swap. I plan on buying all I can so you guys better get there first!!! LOL seriously...they have a website where you can also order and get them shipped...and they are nice people too!!! They have much to offer...lots you don't see often!!!

This was our first chickenstock. Finally got to meet some of the people and put faces to handles. My daughter fell in love with those tiny chickens(sermas?). As I've said before we are new to chickens so I don't know all types and breeds. But trying to learn and today was a good experience. Thanksfor all the hard work that was put into this and hopefully see you at the next one.

They are Serama and come in a multitude of colors! Sooo cute! I had just a few chicks there and a young man across from me - (I think he is 11 and had curly black hair) - told me so much about what I had! They are new to me and I learned so much from this little man! He really does his homework on these Serama! I bought hatching eggs from him and he bought 2 chicks from me...LOL...basically we "traded"! I look forward to crossing paths with him again sometime soon!

(loved his nametag) I will be working on getting my "art" into the right format for him to work his wonders on my decals!!!

I hate so much you guys had a wreck getting home and relieved no one was hurt! You take care and I look forward to talking and also seeing you all soon! Have you given any thought to going to Morganton? I will be up there then too and hope to see you!

Thanks Patsy, yes we will definately be there, are you going to be selling there? I wish you could see how spoiled this little wheaten is getting! ;) He is SO precious!! I relayed the message to hubby, he laughed...he got such a kick out of wearing that name tag. :lau

Looking forward to seeing you again soon!! :)

Saturday must have been the day for Chickens and accidents. When my DD and I left, not even a mile down the road, a dump truck had thrown a piece of metal landing me with a blown rear tire. So there I sat with a 4 year old and 3 chickens on the side of Startown Road. THANK THE LORD my parents live on Startown so my dad came and brought me another vehicle to get my crew home and he got my minivan's spare on and got it home for me.

Here are the 3 newbies I ended up with.....hiding in the coop. I sure hope they make friends soon. I'm a little worried.

Yeah I made this pic front and to the right--purple shirt! I hate my picture being taken!! lol!!

I meant for the picture to show up too but I did not quote the right post!

My Photos Of Chickenstock 2012

The silkies were well represented:

I found this guy absolutely stunning:

There were two Jersey Giants who were truly giant in size. I couldn't get a good picture of them, though. I wanted to talk to this person, but the hubby was getting irate about how some of the other birds were caged.

There were many, many Seramas

I loved these green cages. What a neat idea!

There were lots of people!

There were pigeons

Crested ducks

A Frizzle or Sizzle who needs shade

I don't know what kind these were

Sunbathers

These two were having a discussion

This owner did well providing shade for his/her birds

Some folks found the shade

I was very sad to see birds caged in this manner. No water. No shade. Not humane.

It was a beautiful day!

I know that you probably think they were too hot in the sun but then I thought it funny you posted a photo of the sun bathers. In the photos you said it wasn't humane I saw no evidence of stress on the birds. None had open mouths in panting. I doubt they were too hot. Most folks were kind enough to provide shade to their birds when the sun did get a bit too warm.

What I found to be rude was people letting their kids poke at the birds and run up banging on the cages. The dogs scaring the birds bothered me. Ducks are especially frightened that way. Next time I plan to put my birds on tables to keep the children and dogs from scaring them so badly.

All and all I think it turned out wonderfully! Thank you all that made it a great time. Tricia and Amy (and quite a few others I am sure) are certainly hard workers!
