Carpal tunnel

I did wait too long. I saw the Doctor and he operated 6 days later. We worked me into his schedule. Thanks for the advice on the brace Portia.

You bet. I'm an occupational therpist, so feel free to ask if you're having concerns post surgery. Again, good luck & glad to hear your doc was able to work with you.

I kept putting mine off (3yrs.). When I finally had the surgery, the dr. couldn't beleive how bad my hands were.. I went in and had the surgery done (I just had 'locals' on my hands ==allergic to the meds). Two nights later (for the first time almost three yrs.) I slept all the way through the night. With in two weeks, it was good and within a month, I could not even tell that anything had ever been wrong. It's been three yrs. I kick myself for waiting so long! I had great results.. and if it ever happens again.. I'll do it again..

I waited too long on my left hand and they had to go up my wrist about 3 inches. I would drop stuff to like a jar of mayo in the grocery store, fire would run down my fingers at night and I would hit Jeff all night long trying to wake my hand up. It's by far the best surgery I have ever had. It's been 17 yrs since surgery with my left hand and 15 with my right and so far no more problems. Thank God

The nice thing about this surgery is that you'll never need it again - they cut your ligament and it will never grow back.

So YAY for us! We're cured!

I had both my hands done, 6 wks apart, and recovered within the year. I also had them done when my son was only 3 months old. That was my wake-up call, I was so numb in my hands, wrists, and arms, that I couldn't tell I didn't have a hold on him, and literally dropped him. Thank the Good Lord above that it was onto a couch. Scared me so bad, though, that I went in, and scheduled surgery the following week. Although my hands do ache from time to time now, because I still use them extensively for massage, sewing, beading, crafting, etc, it is NOTHING like before. I am with the others, the surgery has been an absolute blessing in my life! I sleep through the night, I don't drop things ( or babies!!!) anymore, and I can still type, write, and craft.

Baby your hands a bit, so that you can get full recovery, that is the one thing I have heard from every one else I have ever talked to that had this done. Let your body recover, then have fun!! Also, remember to SSTTRREEETTCCHHH!! Don't let those muscles bunch up too much, use your braces, and do the exercises if you feel like your hands are tightening up. Good luck on your other hand!!

It really depends on the person. One of my friends had it done and recovered in just a few days. I went back to work (clerical) in a couple of weeks, and it was much too soon. I hope your surgery was successful. I thought it was going to make me like new. It did help some, but I have gotten close to the same shape in the four years or so since the surgery, and I quit work a year ago.
