Jeremy --- As an example, if I wanted an 18 inch overhang, I would cut a 2x4 about 36 inches long, and half of it attached and the other half as the overhang. Is that correct?

I think I have the bracing figured out now. I viewed many sites, and videos showing that. I will use the braces you show (1st picture) to attach the trusses. Actually, I have some here, that were left from some job. I will need to check the size though, as it may have been from a deck build.

Sur eno problem. For the overhang you want the minimum of 12 inches to be the measurement for the soffit:

That is the measurement from the outer edge of the overhang to the wall. You can have half the board on the truss and the other as the overhang.
