How would we make the "cut" part of the door look finished though?? Just sand and paint it? But then you'll have a gap where you sanded when the doors shut, wont you??

You are looking for a dutch door. I am sure if you contact a door manufacturer they will have them, just not likely to be kept in stock as they are not that common. I had one on a basement bedroom door a few centuries ago--don;t ask me why--it was that way when I bought the house. I did think it was kind of neat, though.
 
Actually, a dutch door is very hard to find, and if they do find a company that makes them...... they're looking at alot of money. (when I worked at Lowes, I researched a Dutch door for my parents, what I found was over 1K, so they decided to make their own)
