Here we have two separate issues that are very real AND fixable. There are no fail safe systems. All systems need the push and pull of different views to find something that looks like balance most of the time.
But, we have one issue that many of our judges are ELECTED. Which means campaigns which means favors and needing campaign funds etc etc etc.... Here where we live one does not even have to be a lawyer to be elected judge. You just have to know the right people. And as DAR said, if the judge decided the jury doesn't hear something they don't...
The other is an utter failure of the bar association to address wrong doing amongst its members........
Too many attorneys are seeking big cases that will lead to TV exposure etc rather than seeking justice. Edited to add there are too many lawyers right now and they all owe far too much money......
