We went looking for snow on the mountains in Co Kerry today. Found plenty and also stumbled across some lovely ruins on our travels and on the way back. Enjoy!

Trees will grow anywhere!

I'm glad you liked it. I'm an avid ruin explorer and I've been sending pics to a few members that I found liked them too, so I thought I'd start a thread and share it with all the ruin lovers on here. There are more of us than I expected! I am planning a thread showing more of Ireland's treasures and the amazing beauty of this country, but I'm battling to get enough good pics together. The weather is not a photographer's friend here!

We haven't moved around and explored much this past 2 weeks, but I did find another castle. Castledonovan, Co Cork

View of the castle from the hill nearby:

I heard they are stopping it from falling to pieces completely. The've removed all the plants from it so far and they are securing the structure. I don't know what, if anything, they'll do beyond that. When we went there there wasn't a workman in sight. Pity, I'd have loved to ask them questions. Starting with "Can I go in?"

do you know why the x pattern on the walls?
Most likely it was originally covered with plaster or stucco, and the X's made it easier for that coat to adhere.

Please do! I actually have some pics of an old graveyard that I liked, but I didn't know if anyone else would be interested in old grave stones, even if there's a crumbling ruin in the middle.

I love old cemeteries. They are museums of stonework, fantastic places. I'm deeply involved with one in Genoa, Italy, the Camposanto di Staglieno. It's the largest outdoor museum in Europe and houses the finest collection anywhere of late 19th and early 20th c. Italian marble sculpture; it's also desperately in need of restoration.
