My wife is 12 days overdue w/ our second (another girl). We are scheduled to go to the hospital Monday night for induction. In an effort to get things started sooner and avoid induction, she trying castor oil after several people said it worked for them. So far not much happening. She took 4 tbls about 2 hours ago.

Anyone else tried this? How did it work?

Thanks.

well, everyone except for me in my family has tried it..but they drank almost a cup! i wouldnt recommend it, it will just make your stomach hurt really bad..i mean, who wants to go into labor with diarrhea?? that would make for an interesting pushing stage!!

Go To GNC and find Red Raspberry capsules in the Womens Nutrition section. Take a couple of those! It should help start up some contractions. (Did for me, anyway.)

Good Luck!

It never worked for me, but my sister insists that it worked for her every time. If your wife does take it, a tablespoon is all she should need.

Congrats on the new baby!

It must have been really coincidental timing because red raspberry leaf does not start contractions, it helps tones the uterus.

Please don't let your wife take castor oil OP, it's dangerous to let your wife get dehydrated.

well, i am 8 1/2 months and the doc never said anything about castor oil!!!
however one of the ways to help move things along is having sex. its called ripening her cervix and it sounds much more enjoyable than sitting on the toilet !!!! and after all, what do you have to lose?

i thought caster oil had become a bad thing to take internally. couldn't it possible harm the child?

i've heard different things in my area that seem to work for some ladies i worked with over the years.

if you have a Moe's sub/sandwich shop get one of their italian sandwiches-the excessive olive oil appears to help induce labor.

also heard that eggplant parmesan can help induce labor. it might just be because we have a lot of italians in the area that do some nice cooking!

It will work on some people..something to do with making muscles contract....probably make you sicker??

My DR. told me the best thing hands down to start labor was sexual intercourse and walking alot. I had C-sections on my last two though so I can't use it as personal experience....

best thing to do and the safest is sex. I know it is akward and uncomfortable but it will be the last time for awhile so give it a try. Besides most babies have a way of coming in their own time. You may be scheduled for monday night but baby will most likely start coming middle of sunday night.

Oh also try walking. Go to walmart and browse the sections pick up some last minute things you might need. the more walking the better. I was 7 days overdue and we went to kroger (a grocery store) and did our 2 week shopping list by the time I got home contractions had started....finally. So good luck.
