The idea with castor oil is- stimulate the bowel, stilmulate the uterus.
There isn't much than can be done if the body truly isn't ready, but sometimes, the body, will respond to a "jump start" if its ready to go.
There are some studies that have linked castor oil to merconium issues, from fetal stress, due to possible uterine hyperstimulation, which is a risk of prosteglandin inductions.
our saying in the birth biz is- the way to get a baby out is the same way to get a baby in- with gentle words, touch, and motion, primal movement and sounds, and most importantly, that ability to release control and let the love flow!
best wishes for your new little one
BTW, on the colostrum thing, most women start producing it around the 6th month of pregnancy. Milk production is signal to begin with the release of the placenta, then from there on, maintaing high prolactin levels in your body with nipple stimulation from nursing or pumping. The concern with using your pump to start labor, again, would be possible uterine hyperstimulation, so just use caution.
