Cat attacked by chicken house - coyote?? "predator" id on pg 3

Hopefully, the other kitty is just hiding out, like kittys do.

If it was a dog, the dog should have some injuries, too; at least minor punctures. Is there any way to check your neighbor's dog(s)? Since the attack was near the coop, I'm still thinking something was after the chickens. A camera would be a great idea, at least to know what you're dealing with.

Let me throw another possibility out there that will make you all chuckle and snort. If the Abdomen was shredded lengthways it could have been of all things a rabbit. When the wife was a youngster she had a dog gutted by a Jackrabbit and she saw it happen. Her little dog jumped the rabbit and the rabbit turned over and and did almost fatal damage to the dog before it was able to get free.

Sounds to me like another cat. They do tend to bite around the head. neck and scratch each other, but they also try to disembowel each other when they fight. Do you have bobcats or large feral cats in your area??

My cat was nearly done in by the neighbors dog at their chicken coop. We almost lost her. It took weeks for her to walk again. That #%&* dog also mauled my german shepherd twice through the 4x4. I finally put up 400 feet of chicken wire. My condolences about your cat.

Identified "Predator" - CSI.

This morning my mother came over and wanted to take a look at him before I buried him. I will tell you that I "looked" at him and did not notice any damage to his head, neck or back but I could not force myself to inspect him over. My mother immediately said that his injury was not caused by an animal and the cut was clean and straight almost like it was caused by a knife. There were no bite marks around the injury and no other scratch marks anywhere.

My chicken house has a large enclosed run behind it and the cats love to lay up there. When he went to jump off the pen he caught himself on the corner of the metal roof of the chicken house. The tin was sharp enough that it made a large 6in cut along his lower side/belly. We found blood splatter along the side of the chicken house from when he jumped.

I'm not sure if this made me feel better or worse. I don't have to worry about anything getting the rest of my cats, but his death seems senseless. The corner of the tin roof is extremely sharp but he had to jump just right to catch himself on it. I've trimmed the edges off. It's to late for poor Cain but hopefully it will prevent anything else from getting hurt

BTW, his brother Abel did show up today.

Oh wow! Never would have thought of that, especially if he's always laying up there. You would think that he knew how to navigate that sharp edge. He must have lost his footing or something. So sad.

Last year a racoon killed one of my pet cats, a beautiful long hair named Smokey, while he was sleeping in his house by the front door....ripped his leg off and pulled his stomach area apart.

I got that racoon in a trap when he came back the next night. He is gone.

Previously have had two other cats attacked by racoons...one had his side/intestines ripped and died, the other had his back hip ripped and lived. Racoons are BAD NEWS

and I think that is what got your poor cat from the description of it's injuries.

Haven't finished the posts but hope you got and disposed of the killer.
