Cat behavior after trauma

Since this was a recent trauma, I would let Kitty do whatever he needs to do to feel safe -- obviously you are the one he can be comfortable with -- but also be very 'matter-of-fact' when I put him down -- no 'baby talk' -- but i would certainly understand his need to be clingy -- who wouldn't be frightened -- animals are 'at our mercy' --

I really admire you for giving little Robert the 'gift' of a stable family -- it takes someone special to do this because it surely isn't easy --
keep up the good work -- :-)

He seems to be ok if I hold him for a while then put him someplace high. I was thinking on top of the hutch, but he does ok on the back of the couch, which is really close to where I sit while on the puter. He has gouged me a time or two also. Ack!!

Debi..i REALLY think Robert needs to get into some therapy.. really. I believe theres more going on with him then not knowing that pets arent stuffed animals...
You've been working with him on this problem for a while now.
MAKE that stinkin idiot mother give you his info so you can get to a doctor and into therapy.
Gah! That lady pizzes me off! I want to do violent things to her..

Oh you have no idea. Do you know how to find a SS#? She has totally disappeared after she burned down the front of her trailer looking for hidden cameras.

Let me ask my job tomorrow..
I'm having bunch of case workers ove rhere tommorrow for a treatment meeting..

I'll run it by them..ask them ways to get a kids SS# if the parent isnt cooperative.
What about his health card? Cant you just use that to get him in? Or does he not have a health card either?
Does he have any insurance coverage at all? Being that shes out of work ..
I'm assuming he has state heath care?
If he does and you dont have his card handy... call the insurance company..(like here its Mass Health)..
And tell them you lost your sons card and he needs to get into the doctor so you need a new card shipped out and his card number..(act like you are his legal mother..whatever her name is..).....They may ask you some info just for security ..
got any info on Roberts mother?..like her maiden name,.. birthdate... does Sara have her mothers SS#?..maybe Ken will know? Can she get in the house and get it?
He ever been to the doc at all??? If so..call that hospital/clinic and call billing/filing..(again..just act like mom)... they should have his card info in his medical files.

OOh never mind..dont do that..its illegal...
Dont listen to me.. I'm always in trouble.

Have you considered putting your cat on a temporary course of antidepressants, like valium? One of our's went on them for a few weeks after another cat moved in and she went a bit mental. It really helped her out!

Debi -
Try some rescue remedy, and put a sweatshirt or something that smells like you on a high place and when he clings to you put him up there with a treat. Make it a "safe" place and reward him for being there.
Poor cat, that's awful...but I understand it wasn't intentional and I'm praying for things to get better. Maybe one of those plug in pheromones would help keep him mellow. The cat, not Robert

Agree with this^^^

That poor cat!! Jingles that he feels better!

Yes that poor cat. He was traumatized big time. He was a bit less clingy last night, but he certainly comes by his name honestly: Mr. Yackers.
