Cat Chat!

Pics
Hi All! I've been lurking around. I'm down to five kittehs now! We lost one a little over two months ago.

Now, to help our other kitty with some kind of black clusters in his ear plus it is swollen and looks like it's filled with fluid. We've been thinking it is ear mites. The swollen ear inside showed up with in a short time after we lost our other kitty in January unexpected. I read online that it could be infected. It's hard to remove the black stuff since it's behind the swollen part of the ear. We are putting ear mite drops in his ear. We are going to call a vet today to get an estimate Any thoughts!

Here is a photo of my youngest gray kitteh when she was under a year old. She turns five this year. How time flies.

Oh, so sorry you lost your cat!! :hugs

I think the vet is your best option...I have no idea what to do other than what you are already doing. Keep trying to remove the black stuff; maybe get it wet or something, see if that makes it easier? Does he have fleas?

Cute cat! :)

It sounds a lot like when Shadow had an abscess. Do you let them outside? Any chance that he got into a fight with another cat?
I've never dealt with ear mites, but I would take him to the vet asap

Thank you all. We are going to try to get a photo of his ear. He will be 15 this year and so far he's the only one that has it out of 5 cats. Yes, on flea but can fleas cause an infection in the ear. He's eating and drinking and has a big appetite. He shakes his head which is a sign of mites, scratches his ear with his paw. Not sure if he is using his claws. All cats are inside cats, they have an enclosed deck outside but he doesn't go out their very often unless the sun is out which it hasn't been in awhile. We are in the PNW. We have a vet that comes into our area once a week to treat animals he's called the good neighbor vet but I will call a local vet here in town and see what they say it could be. They probably won't tell me since they would want to see him. I'll need to get a price for this but it shouldn't cost too much I hope.

I don't know if fleas can cause an infection in the ear, but I know they leave black clusters, lol. My three legged cat has a spot in his neck he can't itch. If we don't brush it or help him clean that area and he has fleas (from being an outdoor cat) black clusters (poo) get there very fast. But I don't know what it looks like. :idunno

I just called the good neighbor vet that comes out every Saturday. I told her the problem might me mites but could be flea poo. She told me what it was going to cost for treatment/exam to look at his ear which was 30 dollars. Vet in town wanted just 62 dollars just to walk into their office before an exams or medication. If I'm in town this weeks I'll get other estimates but seems the best option is wait until Saturday to get him check out. I'll let you know when I find something out if we take him here in town instead of waiting until Saturday. Lets see what my hubby can find out.

Our cat had 2 yesterday one at 4pm and one at 10pm. I honestly though she was going to for after she didn't have the second kitten after an hour or two..
