cat havings kitten - need help asap! *UPDATE PLEASE HELP AGAIN!*

That's a pretty good survival rate for that size litter. Odds of not losing at least one out of an animal's first litter even if they were all bred under ideal conditions is probably lower than the odds of seeing a death. That's why a lot of people who want to discourage backyard breeding respond to the desire to show children the miracle of life by asking if you are ready for the miracle of death. Breeding animals results in dead animals irregardless of whether you do everything perfect. If you are lucky you won't ever have to lose a parent animal. Every time we breed horses I fail to sleep well for months because there's always that risk. The guinea pigs we had growing up, the rabbits, and the stray cats I can more easily accept that we might lose. It's the horses I've raised from foals over the past 4-6years that stress me out and while I want to import and breed shikoku dogs I'm not sure if I can handle that.

thanks everyone. now im just worried about her taking care of them. its just a shame she is much too young for this, shes a playful cat and she honestly thinks shes a dog, she follows my german shepherd and me around constantly, and now when i go out there she leaves the kittens and acts like she always had. it makes me nervous they are going to get too cold while shes out of there. how often does a mother cat leave the kittens generally? and for how long? i know this depends from cat to cat but im just looking for an idea of wether this is going to be ok or if im going to have to lock her up with them, or end up caring for them myself. i'd like to be as hands off as possible, but if shes going to abandon them too much i'd have to step in...

Do you have a room you could lock her up in? She may also try and move the kittens to keep them hidden. A couple years ago I fostered a momma and her 5 babies. When we got her home, I put the babies in the kennel and let her walk around. When I came back less than 2 min. later, 2 kittens were gone. She had moved them into the other room under a chair.

Good Luck with the babies.

I would also move them into a place where you can confine Mama as she can come back into heat and get pregnant again within days after giving birth! You will need to keep a close eye on her until you can get her spayed.

Now ~ WE NEED PICTURES!

With my mama cat...she's with them the majority of the time and gets out of the box I have in the bathroom only to eat, drink, and use the litter box. Sometimes I catch her sitting on the outside of the box...but that doesn't last long. She constantly speaks to her babies and they cry out for her so she jumps back with them.

With new mom cats i would think Instincts take over. I hope all is well with your new family.
How old did you say the mom cat is?

This happened to me I ended up putting mamma and babies in a large cage with a small litter box food and water. I found the mamma as a kitten and was planning on getting her fixed but her first heat she got prego. But she is a barn kitty and thinks she is a chicken. Any way I kept her in the cage till the kittens were almost 3 weeks old. And now they are in the barn and the kittens are already trying to eat the food. But the vet says when the kittens are 7-8 weeks old I can get her fixed. I won't let her out to roam because she can get prego again. So that is my experience so far
