Cat In our Yard...

You shouldn't have to worry. Only worry if It starts Bugging your chickens (looking at them is not bugging), or trying to get to them. But for now just keep an eye on him.
Lot's of people who own cats and let them outside don't put collars on them. (like mine) So don't think their feral just because they don't were a collar. Mine don't because when their outside it could get snagged on something.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. We have a lot of cats and strays and they have never bothered our birds. My chickens even pick on the cats and peck them haha. One of our cats have caught a little wild bird once though so if you have any little tiny chicks I would watch out for them. We do have smaller chickens but they seem to be fine and the cats don't bother them.

We have strays all over here and some I have adopted. Not one has gone after a chicken. They could care less about getting one. The cats seem to be curious about them but scared of them too. I have watched the reaction of many of the cats around here for about the past seven years and I think it unnerves them how jumpy, jerky, nervous and noisy chickens are. They can't figure them out or what they are going to do next.

I don't have collars on the two strays that I adopted. They don't like being outside during the day when the chickens are out. They aren't even interested in watching them from inside. I have three strictly indoor cats that I got from a shelter and they could care less about the chickens but will hold vigil at the windows or doors crying to get a bird. :)

I would agree that most cats will not really go after a chicken but we have cats around here that have killed full grown chickens .... so, beware!
