A cat comes in to my garden and kills my chickens, has even opened the coop and killed 1 and tried to kill another. I don't know what I can do.... please can anyone help...

Have you seen the cat? When you say opened the door of the coop, I'm thinking raccoon. Secure your coop better and trap the predator.

How big is this cat and how small are the chickens. Also what kind of door do you have on the coop that a cat could open? Finally, are you sure it is a cat? Sounds like something a coon would do.

Trap the cat or whatever predator is killing your birds and permanently dispose of it.

you sure it's a cat and not a raccoon? if i were you, i'd put out a live trap and catch the culprit. a coon would get put down, a cat i would try to find the owners and demand they reimburse for damages for at least $20 a bird, with warning to keep the cat contained. if i couldn't find the owner, i would take it to a shelter so that they would either lose the cat or have to pay to get it back (losing money usually speaks louder than angry neighbors). if there actually was no owner, i would still take it to the shelter, they'll either find it a better home or humanely euthanize if it's feral.

secondarily, i would also reinforce the coop, because a cat getting in means a coon can definitely get in, and coons are worse than cats.

I agree that it sounds like something else. However my electric mesh run with a solar charger does keep out the cats, rats, dogs, and mongoose that plague my area.

I agree with all of woodmort's questions. It's very rare for a cat to kill a chicken, much less open a coop. I have raised cats and chicken together for 20 years, never had a problem. Seeing a cat in the garden is one thing- seeing it actually attack a chicken is another.

Can you give more concise details, please?
