I've found some cat litter boxes that appear to be perfect as a nesting box, but they're treated with microban. Will this harm the chickens? I've added the definition:
Microban technology is built-in antimicrobial protection which gives products an added level of protection against damaging microbes such as bacteria, mold and mildew that can cause stains, odors and product deterioration. 2.

I do not see it would be harmful not sure I use them myself but more than likely you are safe, today's woods have so many other products wound up I use the tubs with the front cut out so they have privacy paid like 3.98 at walmart

Cat littler buckets(that you buy the litter in)?
Or cat little boxes(that you use the cat litter in)?
The buckets may be too small for decent nests.
Post pics please?

storage tubs is what I am using not huge but much depends on the size of your birds what breeds do you have

We're thinking of covered cat litter boxes so the chickens have privacy & they're easy to take apart & clean.
Ah like this?:
"This pan is made with Microban which prevents the growth of stain and odor causing bacteria." Not sure about the Microban, is it in the plastic or painted on, or...?
I'd just wash it real good first.

We're aiming for Rhode Island Reds & Buckeyes. My next research is to find out how careful we need to be about mixing layer-chicken food with meat-chicken food.
