Cat problems!

I'm pretty sure she does not have a UTI now. She's been in the bathroom and she's been using the litter box normally. The only problem I saw was a couple of live worms in her poop. Does dewormer from the store EVER WORK??? I'd have to say NO at this point.

Trisha, go to a feed store and get some Nemex, it the same thing the vet will give you and you can get a bottle for 13.00

You'll need to worm all your cats at once and clean all litter boxes to make sure they don't pass them to each other.

I'd urge you to take her in for a diabetes test. This summer I lost my big calico to diabetes, which we didn't even know she had until a couple of hours before she died. She was also overweight and had started peeing on the floor....right next to the litter box. At her last check up she had checked out fine, so it can come on pretty fast. I kick myself that I didn't take her in when she started not using the litter box....she would still be with me if I had. I thought she was just po'd at me about something.

If your cat has tape worms, they will pass segments of the worms (small, like a grain of rice) along with their pooh or you will even see the worms at their back end. You have to look for a wormer specifically for tape worms. KV Vet catalog sells "Tape Worm Tabs", active ingredient is praziquantel. You must treat all of the cats. They pick tapes up from eating mice, even ingesting fleas, as they are carriers.

As for the UTI and/or bad litter box habit. I would bet she has Cystitis. When a cat is uncomfortable (burning when they urinate) they will go outside the box, on soft carpet, even the tub, as they are trying to find a spot that they think won't make them hurt so much to go. She is associating the litter box with the pain. Also, licking at herself a lot is another indication she's got something going on.

If you are concerned about the vet costs, if he indeed diagnoses her with an infection, don't be afraid to discuss cost of the medications with him. For instance, amoxicillin is cheaper than Clavamox, Clavamox is cheaper than Baytril and all my be suitable for treating her infection, but you might want to start with the cheapest medication first to see if it does the trick.

I really hate to tell you this ---and I HOPE this isn't the case with Baby--- but if it were me I'd want to know everything I could about others' experiences so I hope it's OK to tell you a sad story: my best friend's cat did the same thing. She would pee where she wasn't supposed to... shifting the "spot" every once in a while (i.e. then they had their son she started peeing in his room). They are absolutely DEVOTED to their pets, and tried everything... washing the spots with various chemicals and substances (ammonia, vinegar, stuff from the pet store, etc.), keeping the litter box scrupulously clean, numerous vet visits to rule out illness, but it just kept getting worse as she got older. At one point they took her to (don't laugh!! They were at wit's end!) a pet psychic, but that didn't help either. Finally she passed away, but that was after probably 5 years of it getting progressively worse and a daily occurence.

Thats said, I have seen products at pet stores you can spray to keep her from peeing in that same spot....
