Cat stuck in tree

I had decided (if my cat was stupid enough to do it again) I would lean my tallest ladder against the tree and leave it until she came down. I didn't have to do it, but it's a reasonable idea. If they see a less risky way down, they might be tempted to try it rather than a long jump. Cat food in a bowl at the bottom of the ladder might be an extra incentive. As far as dehydration, I might be tempted to spray them with the hose from the ground. They'll lick their fur and get enough moisture to survive, I believe. Or the hose water might give them the needed incentive to come down. Animals are so smart in some ways to be so obtuse in others, aren't they?

I've had this happen several times, and haven't lost a cat yet. Either I just wait for them to want down badly enough, or squirt them with the hose if it will reach. Yes, squirting them will hydrate them to a point. Generally they have seemed to come down sooner if everyone goes away and leaves them alone, if calling and cat food and such don't work.
