CAT WITH GAPING HOLE IN HIS EAR!! HELP

UPDATE: So my cat is doing better, he is not so sensitive around the ear, the hole closed. My dad is a paramedic, so when he got home he said that it was okay that it was open so all the puss could drain, he said that we would wait before we took him to the vet. Monday puss kept draining. Tuesday, the hole formed a scab, the ear did not swell up. Today, after he was outside all night, his ear was pinned down again. At first I thought it was hurt again, but then I noticed a scab formed on his hair on his ear, the hair on his head was fused with the hair on his ear. He then sat down and scratched the scab off. It bled slightly, but it scabed over. The sound now looks so much better, I think I slightly over reacted. I am still keeping an eye on it to see if it gets infected. I can't believe a chicken fourm would help me out with a problem with my family's cat!! Thank you all!!
