Catching a chicken.... HOW???????

If it's daytime and they are reluctant to come to be caught a net works great. At night they are all i the coop sleeping and it's a breeze. Good luck!

OMG... my chickens run from me like crazy! They are so scared. They seem to HATE for me to pick them up and hold them.

DARN! I want them to come to me too.

Train the chickens to come running at a certain sound. Just like you would train a dog. Then, once you have them coming to you, start feeding them each by hand. Next you should incorporate a couple pats on the back while feeding them. Pretty soon they will be so used to you being close and touching them that they should be OK with being picked up if you do it slowly without startling them. Just get them used to being handled. It makes catching them a whole lot easier.

And if that fails use a fishing net.

Almost all of mine are tame and let me pick them up. But a few are shy or timid. I have a bantam rooster I call Spooky because he spooks and runs whenever I try to catch him and screams like a little girl when I finally catch him and hold him.

I use a fish-pool net to catch him. It's used for catching (gently) koi and other pet fish, so it's big enough for chooks. The handle is 4' long so I can net a chicken without needing to get real close. I may have to chase the chook into a corner, but the net is a real help in that I don't have to bend down and try to grab. Sometimes the chicken jumps (unintentionally) into it trying to get away.
