We've had chickens for a few years and I've read that you can have cats live in your coup. My question is where/how do you provide an access that the cat can come/go but will be inaccessible to most predictors? I understand nothing is foolproof but does anyone have a way for their cats to access that their chickens don't? I'm in NW Minnesota and our chickens rarely leave the coop in the winter months even if their door is open. I'd like the cats to come/go all hours and all seasons regardless of what's going on with the chickens. Thanks in advance, Kurt.

Our coupe is open year round. We have 2 cats that were abandoned here last spring as small kitten's. They come and go from the coup 24/7. They actually snuggle with the hens when it's cold. There have been a few times that the door has been closed on the pen for the night when below 0 out ( I do this so my hens and ducks stay by the heat lamps in the coupe) on those mornings my cats are out of the pen. I have no idea how they do this.
