So Owen is a "Mystery Baby"...My first thoguth was a Red Holstien but another BYC'er suggested maybe Ayrshire or Shorthorn, SO i have a few questions...

Are Ayrshire polled?
Owen already has some very obvious nubs.

Are Shorthorns generally more "roan-ish" in their coloring?
Owen has pretty clear spots and perfect color seperation, No "shaded" look.

He also seems much more thickly built that the Holstien calf & brown swiss with him. He is long bodied & also seems like he's going to be quite stocky.

thanks for the help everyone.

Let me know if I need any other pictures to help figure this out.

He's not a shorthorn. He doesn't look beefy enough for one thing, and for another, shorthorns are either solid red, solid white, or roan. You get roans when one parent is red and one is white. Ayrshires are not polled. They are also finer boned than Holsteins and the head is a slightly different shape. Yours looks like a red Holstein to me but you can tell better when he gets older.

Is that phillip laying next to her? how is he doing. sorry of topic, about the breed I can't help you there.
