There's always some feral or semi-feral cats in need of barn homes, so I do encourage people to think about adopting some. However: be aware that they are another animal you are responsible for. You have to feed them and make sure they have fresh water and make sure they stay healthy.
And no, they won't kill normal-sized full grown chickens. Chicks, yes (though probably not if those chicks are behind a VERY mad hen). They likely won't bother huge snakes, but they will kill small snakes and decrease the rodents available for the snakes to eat. But they will also kill small wild birds, so decide if that's a deal-breaker for you.
& No, don't keep them in the coop with the chickens.
