Hi folks, I'm new to keeping chickens and only had ours for about 3 weeks. Can stop spending time with them, they are so intriguing! Having built the coop and run from scratch, the feeling of pride has well set in now the chickens are clearly getting more relaxed and familiar with their new home. Hoping in a few weeks we will start to see some eggs, only thing is I am nervous about the commencement of laying, when I understand the first few can be a bit dodgy... To introduce you to our gang we have 2 Black Tails (one called Ginger, who has an entirely Ginger neck and one called Lilly, who has black speckles on the base of her neck) also one Rhode Rock who we named Rocky. All of them are approx 20 weeks old.
Can anyone offer advice about what to expect or do specifically regarding the first few eggs that get laid?
Thanks, Tom.

Hi and :welcome

The first few eggs can be a bit dodgy in that they have more than one yolk or their size is a bit off. But they are fine to eat. If you get a double yolkier, count yourself lucky. :p

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site. :D
