First of all, thank's everyone for all your help.

Ok, so, here's an update. All 4 ladies seem to be doing well. The one with the worst "pasty butt" issue isn't completely healed yet but is doing much better. Maybe all better but won't know for certain until I can give her another butt wash tomorrow (been too cold to do it last few days). Have them all on Mother's cider vinegar (1 tsp to a gallon) in their water for the past 3 days. Figured after everyone getting a good clean out from the Epsom salts and the Oxine they could use it. Had them almost 2 weeks now and dispite all they are starting to lay (3 eggs this morning and I could tell 1 was from pasty butt) for a total of 12 within the past few days. Otherwise they are all bright eyed (and would be bushy tailed if the poor things had feathers on their butts

) Feathers are beginning to grow back, still dull and "flaky" (no sign of lice) so I am going to hang a wild bird suet cake for them to work on. Someone on here said that was good for their feathers, etc. One of their bare butts looked "blotchy" so I rubbed her bum with neosporin. We got super cold the other night and I am thinking her bare bottom got too cold. Check on her in the morning and she might get a "sit bath" when I do pasty butt. Wonder if I irritated her skin when I mixed a little Sevin into their dusting hole yesterday. I hope they start to look better before someone comes over and sees them, the poor things look like a bad cartoon!

After all they've been thru in their short lives they are still sweetest, most trusting things. They have already started greeting me in the morning and no one runs from me. One even makes it hard for me to do anything in the coop because she has to be right there checking out everything I do or hopping on top of the nesting boxes so she can look me in the eye. She even tried to follow me out the door this morning.

ok, PLEASE HELP!

I have tried everything but my one poor hen still has gleet! Started with the Epsom salts(til I could get the Oxine delivered) I have put Oxine in the water, ACV in the water, (did all of the previous to all four hens because one other had a mild case which has since cleared up) washed her but with ES, twice, and yesterday after washing her butt I applied athlete's foot powder. Today? pasty again, sigh. (Stopped putting anything in the water for a couple days to give everyone a break and a chance to normalize their systems.)

She otherwise is eating good, bright, alert and loving being able to get outside with her coop mates and just be chickens for the first time in their lives. (there is no rooster aggrivating things). One thing I have noticed is she does seem to have a little bit of "something" pop out when she "flexes" her vent but it pops right back in. She is laying normally. There is no "chicken vet" within 50 miles so that is out (and probably coast prohibitive).

I REALLY don't want to give up on her as long as she is still otherwise active and content but I am at wit's end!

When do I give up? Can I just take a wait and see? I want to do what is best for her but I just don't know what that is.

Thank you in advance for any help any of you can give.

Thank you Don!

did contact CMV and she was loaded with great info and very graciously answered all my questions

. Are you still having problems or did you consult her first? Off to town as soon as possible for some Monistat, then another butt washing, everyone gets a blue butt
D.gif
(my pasty butt to help her + everyone else to help and protect their bare bottoms and hopefully stop the last of the plucking, sigh). Haven't decided yet whether to go with the suppositories or the cream. Both ways sound like they have their own "fun" to give

.
I just have to get these poor girls healthy. Wish me luck!

Me a mentor? Blind leading the blind?

Ok, here we go, hang on chickies! I will definitely keep you posted on my progress with the Monistat. It is a genius solution and since so many have already tried it for several problems (seems to be THE solution for sour crop!) it appears to be safe to try on my girl. Have to do something or she will eventually go downhill and I will lose her anyway. Not my style to give up an animal without a fight!

Ok, got the Monistat
thumbsup.gif
for my poor girl with the vent gleet. Now, how do I go about getting the hen to swallow it? And how much should I give her?
idunno.gif
She is 18-20 months and probably 4+ lbs (been gaining weight even with the gleet)supposed to be a "Super Black" which my guess is a cross between an Austrolorp and I think a Wyandotte. (She's 99% black with slight brown vertical striping-one of the other hens looks like 99% Wyandotte and lays huge eggs) The generic box of Monistat I got from Walmart came with 3 suppositories and a tube of cream. Much less expensive than I expected

I am waiting until tomorrow to bathe her bottom again and dose her because it's supposed to get pretty cold tonight and I don't want to risk her getting chilled.

I really want to get her all better so I would really appreciate any wisdom I can get from you so knowledgeable folks

Thanks so much for everyone's help

BTW~everyone else have their "blu butts" and I didn't wind up blue (well, maybe just a little but found out that GOOP will take it right off!)

They swallow it? I had one with vent gleet. I found where someone suggested nystatin. Could not find anyone to write me a prescription for it but finally found a breastfeeding friend whose child had gotten thrush but my hen didn't make it. I think vent gleet was the lesser of her problems.

morning! Yep!

do a search for Monistat and you will get the whole story. Once you know the "why" it makes perfect sense. (I also got a wonderful message from CMV with details) These so wonderful, knowledgeable folks on here are always giving me another DUH

Now, for MOTHER'S DAY I get to be a chicken mommy and as soon as it warms up above freezing, sigh, I get to go out with a warm pan of epsom salts to the greenhouse, catch my poor chicken child, give her a warm butt bath and shove a piece of a Miconazole Nitrate suppository down her throat
