Caution: complacency

I enjoyed your intro as well. Your GF comment reminded me about my first wife who forbade me from having any chickens. That is one of several reasons she was my first wife. My second wife of close to 26 years is far more tolerant of my addiction, although I am in the midst of no roosters probation (that dang chicken math thing).

Thanks to all who have replied thus far. I was shocked. I'm retired and so have nothing better to do than watch the chickens, pet the dog, and read the internet. Which I usually do while watching the chickens or petting the dog. How do so many of you have time to read and post replies this early in the morning on a weekday?
Anyhow, the hasp is on the outside and I have a hook and eye on the inside. Should the hasp close while I'm inside, there is enough gap between the door and the frame that I can use a small stick or my little finger to push it back open. And I am still trying to figure out what category to put my question in.

Lol I am a home-making grandma raising a grandson, and he is at school all day. I pop in from time to time between doing laundry, messing with the chickens, petting a dog, planning and making dinner for hubby and grooming a very demanding cat, among other things! Will watch for your question.

It happens. A couple of weeks ago, I went into my run through one gate and exited through another, and ended up only closing the second gate. Nothing happened thankfully, the chickens all magically stayed in the run the entire day with nothing more than a 16" tall wire panel across the doorway keeping them inside. At least I noticed it before my 3 dogs did!
